Supporting the farmer with foliage fertilizers
Zackary Kariuki started his business of selling farm inputs in 2013 by doing boot sales from his vehicle. A few months later, the demand for his foliar products grew and he set up his business premise at Loncom House in Nakuru town.
Operating under the name Hai Tech Farm Supplies Limited, the company sells agri inputs in wholesale to agrovet shops in Nakuru, Narok, naivasha, Kericho, Kisii, Eldoret, Bungoma, Kitale, and other parts of the western region as the main distributor.
His range of products includes herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, foliar fertilizers, pesticide sprayers.
He has been a member of AAA since March 2014. Some of the benefits he has accrued from being a member include the trainings on business plan writing, financial management and branding and packaging. The access to trade fairs and exhibitions have given him exposure and increased his client portfolio.
“Being a member has really helped me network and explore possible channels of financing the business. The financial management training will go a long way in linking me to potential funding,” he notes.
Zachary is currently doing business with another AAA member Peter Njau who owns Mau Agritech which produces cereal seeds and provides advisory services on crop production. He sells seed treatment and foliage fertilizer to him.
His company has identified the niche in providing farmers with solutions to weed management. His main challenge is lack of working capital to expand the business.
