Business deals made at the Apimondia Symposium
Seven AAA members are participating in the first Apimondia Symposium on African Bees and Beekeeping 2014 in Arusha, Tanzania. The three day event that began on 11 November 2014 at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) brought together beekeepers, manufacturers, exporters, importers, researchers and processors in the Apiculture sector.
A lot of networking and business deals were made. Three of our members, Farid Karama, Robert Okodia and George Mugula managed to do business with Anhui Export Development Company Limited, a Chinese company that manufactures and exports various bee keeping equipment and bee products. They were able to buy bee keeping equipment and discussed possible partnerships for distributing Chinese bee keeping equipment in Uganda.
Within the Apimondia, members got to interact and participate in the conference, with others buying honey and other products on display at the stands. At the same time the second Honey CoP meeting was held and the members agreed to strengthen the business relationship between Uganda and Tanzania.
In preparation for the activities of the honey CoP in 2015, It was agreed upon that a lot of training and sensitization needed to be done on proper processing, value addition chains, consumer awareness and member to member relationships at country level. The Uganda members are already in collaboration in doing business by collectively sourcing for honey and bee keeping equipment.
At the close of the meeting, Fulgence Kitigwa was appointed as the assistant honey CoP leader with Farid Karama as the leader.
