Visit Rwandan AAA members to Kenya

Africa Agribusiness Academy brings Rwandan agribusiness entrepreneurs closer to their counterparts in Kenya.

Rwanda has shown interest in becoming a part of the AAA fraternity. Celestin Gatera the AAA Consultant in Rwanda accompanied the ream to Kenya.  The trip was made possible thanks to the high level preparations and coordination by Charles Gitau who is the Kenya Chapter Chairman and Bram Huijsman from Wageningen University.

The Rwanda delegation was made up of Gatarayiha Elysee owner of Macadamia Horticulture: processing and packaging, Emmanuel Ntihinyura of Okape Grain Millers Megavet East Africa which is an agri inputs and veterinary products supplier. Juvenal Ndayisenga, owner of Bee products/Fruits processing, wine brewery unit, Paulin Ruzibiza the Chief operations of Rwanda best which specializes in poultry/ hatchery and mushroom growing and Frank Bakx from Rabobank Foundation and involved in agribusiness in East Africa and Great Lakes region were also part of the visiting team.

The trip was for 3 days running from 10-12 March 2014, and its main aim was to facilitate learning from AAA Kenya chapter so that the future Rwanda Chapter  can start on solid foundation with good role models.

A briefing session was held in Nairobi between AAA Kenya Chapter leadership and members as well as the AAA Netherlands along with Hans Nijhoff from Tanzania. The second day we visited AAA members in Meru County. These included Kilimo Talii, Mt Kenya Gardens (involved in production and marketing of fruits and vegetables, agri-extension and irrigation consultants), Hillside Green Growers (fresh horticulture produce). The last day was spent in Quest laboratories Limited in Nairobi then  Machakos County at Dryland Seed Limited.

After the trip, participants were more than enthusiastic to see the Rwandan chapter realised so that they can start capitalizing on the experience gained during this trip and organizing events that boost AAA in Rwanda, in the region and in the world.

It is anticipated that in the beginning of May 2014, Rwanda will materialize the official set up of Africa Agribusiness Academy Rwanda Chapter.
